The Aftercare staff is wonderful! Everyone was so helpful in helping me. They are all friendly, but Aftercare made a plan and followed up with me after my stay and has maintained contact.
I have been to River Oaks before and the reason I came back is because I know this program works. Even though its not a 12 step based program, they expose us to the 12 steps as well as SMART and Dharma recovery. They give so many options. Before Covid we were taken to outside meetings and given lots of opportunities to stay sober on the outside. They teach so many great coping skills but the real way to stay sober I feel is a 12 step program which is critical. Another reason I came back here is because the clinical team is phenomenal. Specifically Nurse Risha the pharmacy nurse, Nurse Shay, and Nurse Christina were phenomenal in getting us the medication and care we need. They take their time to explain things to us and let us know they care. I'm on a lot of medication and they have had so much patience and grace. The doctors have been consistent and I was given the same therapist each time I came here which made me feel safe because I was with somebody who knows me. I love my treatment team! I love that there is also an LGBTQ group and meeting. I love that this is a very accepting place. Even when the clients are not accepting, the staff is open minded to help them to understand to make sure everyone feels safe and accepted. I love that a lot of the staff are also in recovery, it helps them to know how to help their clients because they have walked the same path. I love the staff so much. My case manager Jenn went above and beyond for me making phone calls and reaching out to people. She helped me secure so many resources and even gave me more resources I didn't even know about or have access to which helped me make new connections. I loved Cami's groups because she incorporates meditation and the science behind it and how it benefits the body. For us who struggle with addiction that is so important. I love the DBT model they use here and the mindfulness practices because they incorporate holistic aspects into their program. The only thing I would complain about would be the food. I learned so much for my recovery including that I can emotionally relapse long before I pick up a drug or a drink. Learning to identify my red flags helps me see things before they happen instead of not understanding why I pick up. Karah my therapist helped me do some great relapse prevention planning while I was here. She gave me the opportunity to do a teach back thanks to the fact that I have been here before, she empowered me to share some of my experience which really built my self worth. I'm really grateful that I had this opportunity to reflect, and I would stay longer if I could.
